Manpower Recruitment are working with an Established College in Oxford City Centre, who require a Full Time Works & Maintenance Technician The Salary is £26,023 to £28,309 per annum (depending on experience), working 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday) 08.00 am to 4.00 pm, with no additional call outs. A Full UK Driving licence would be needed for this role Overview of the Role The College invites applications for the position of Works & Maintenance Technician and is looking for a motivated and talented person to join our small team. The purpose of the job is to carry out, under the direction of the Buildings & Facilities manager and the works & maintenance supervisor, reactive, planned and regulatory maintenance and repairs on College buildings, in addition to ensuring utilities, plant, machinery and equipment are also correctly maintained. Key duties and responsibilities
- Carry out emergency repairs such as domestic plumbing, changing light bulbs, lock issues, minor furniture repairs, and a wide range of basic general repairs and general maintenance work to all College buildings; this is in accordance with the College fault reporting system.
- Implement planned and regulatory maintenance on college buildings such as fire door checks, fire call point testing, emergency light testing, water regime testing & meter readings.
- Complete small project works such as decorating, carpentry, tiling and any other finishing trades.
- Update the maintenance register of risk assessments, COSHH paperwork, emergency light tests, fire control and any other regulatory or planned works.
- Ensure that chemicals are safely stored, and their use properly recorded.
- Identify and quantify materials required for maintenance tasks and collect materials from merchants if required using College vehicle.
- Undertake the necessary training and attend refresher courses as and when required to be able to fulfil the duties of the post.
- Draw future maintenance requirements to the attention of the Site Manager and the Works & Maintenance Supervisor.
- Work with and assist other members of the department, in carrying out day-to-day general maintenance work
- Adhere to the College's Health and Safety Policy, carrying out duties in accordance with training and instruction received and informing the Site Manager of any potential hazard or danger.
- Always take reasonable care to guard personal safety and the safety of all persons who may be affected by the jobholder's actions at work.
- Ensure correct use of all College power tools and equipment, keeping them in good working condition. Wearing Personal Protective Equipment as required and carrying out work in a safe and appropriate manner.
- Assist with keeping the maintenance workshop clean and maintained to a standard compliant with current safety regulations and the College Health and Safety Policy.
- Always carry a college mobile (switched on) and communicate with other members of staff, as appropriate, to carry out work with minimum disruption.
- Adopt a flexible approach towards the duties, and show a willingness to take on new responsibilities, and/or undergo further training in line with the development of the position and changing demands/circumstances within the College.
- Drive the College van when necessary. Update the servicing and MOT when required.
- Provide cover for other maintenance staff and the Works & Maintenance Supervisor during holidays, sickness, and peaks in workloads.
- A competent knowledge of carpentry, domestic plumbing, tiling, painting, glazing and general maintenance.

- Computer literacy to access the computerised maintenance log and update the system when tasks are completed (training will be provided).
- Ability to use power equipment (with training), walk up and down stairs without difficulty, carry reasonable loads unassisted and work at heights using ladders and tower scaffolding.
- Hold a current valid driving licence and be able and willing to drive the College vehicle to carry out work duties.
- Speak, read, and write English in order to be able to follow work instructions, procedures and health and safety requirements.
